Miniature sculptures

Making these miniature sculptures is Maisa Majakka’s hobby. Instead of sculpting at her studio, the little cats and dogs are born in the artist’s home where she sits on the couch shaping them while watching TV - like she has done ever since she was a child. Maisa uses her studio materials to make the animals, and their colours and appearance change according to the materials she is currently drawn to in her studio work.

The animal figurines have been modeled from stoneware clay, fired to scone 6, and hand painted with metallic lustres. Every animal figurine is one of a kind and unique. A small animal can live in a flower pot, inside a doll house or on the window sill. They can watch the room from a shelf, serve as a desk mascot or blend in a collection of decorative items. A little animal is at their best when accompanied by another little animal.
